Southern 40
Another awesome night @ WRP!
For the 1st time ever we ran under the lights, with the cold night air & 40 degree temps it did not hold the crowd back as it was a record crowd in attendance for WRP. And the racing once again did not dissapoint.
Fast time: Phil Harding - 6.29 [New WRP track record]
1st heat: Aaron Fry, Uncle Roush, Phil Harding, John W Roush
2nd heat: Jamie Roush, Mike May, Scott Salyers, Ryan Linkous
3rd heat: Phil Harding, John W Roush, Aaron Fry, Uncle Roush
4th Heat: Mike May, Jamie Roush, Scott Salyers, Ryan Linkous
After the heats were settled, Salyers held just a 37 point lead over Fry for the track championship. Fry would start 4th with Salyers starting 6th in the feature. Just a handfull of laps into the 40 lap feature Fry got under May for the 3rd spot but to his displeasure the cautioin would come out & track officials determined that by going back to the last completed lap Fry would be put back into the 4th spot. Fry was not happy with the call & he let track officials know it. Just a lap after going back to green Fry would have the chain come off bringing out the yellow once again. Set to go green once again, Fry would lose his chain again right away. Very upset with the way things were going Fry would call it a night just 10 laps into the feature event. This would end his chances for the WRP 2009 track championship. 10 laps in the running order would be: Jamie Roush, Harding, May, Uncle Roush, Salyers, John Roush, Linkous, Fry. Green would fall again & we would stay green for the next 24 laps with Jamie Roush & Phil Harding trading paint & the lead back & forth several times. With 6 to go Linkous looped his kart in turn three bringing out the caution once again. The final 6 laps would see Harding with the lead & he would pull away from Roush just enough to take the checkers & win the Southern 40. Salyers would finish 6th securing him the 2009 WRP track championship!

WOW!!I wish we could tape the races there!!There were 6 lead changes and I missed it!!Congrats to Phil on the win and track record and Jamie for another good run!!Im so excited that I held on for the track Championship!!I cant wait to collect my Hardware at the banquet!!LOL
